Microdosing
A microdose is a sub-perceptual amount — enough to shift mood, focus and creativity, not enough to alter your perception of reality. It is the most common entry point into psychedelics, and the easiest to fit around ordinary life.
What a microdose actually is
For psilocybin, a microdose is roughly 100–300mg of dried mushroom, about one tenth of a full dose. You should be able to work, drive and hold a conversation normally. If you feel visual changes, you have taken too much — reduce next time.
Common schedules
Fadiman protocol: dose on day one, then two days off, repeating. Stamets protocol: four days on, three days off. Both exist to prevent tolerance building, which happens quickly with psilocybin. Do not dose every day.
What to expect
Most people report steadier mood, easier focus and less rumination rather than anything dramatic. Effects are cumulative and subtle — keep a short daily note so you can tell whether it is actually working for you.
Before you start
If you take SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs or lithium, read our interaction guidance first and speak to a clinician. Psilocybin is not appropriate for everyone, and a personal or family history of psychosis is a strong reason not to proceed.
